It went from being less than a sure thing this tournament would ever happen, to making it a day to remember for Make-A-Wish Massachusetts & Rhode Island!  21 enthusiastic teams came out for a common cause and braved the scorching summer heat in the inaugural Wifflin’ For Wishes event at McLaughlin Field in Leominster, MA!  Much fun was had by all and two things were agreed upon amongst all the tourneygoers:  bring a canopy next summer and this was too much fun not to get others into the fray and grow this event big time next summer!

Congrats to Friends O’ Clyde, who dominated the tournament by winning all four of their round-robin games, then proceeding to destroy the competition in their four playoff games by a combined 35-0.  Their star hitter, Ben Herk, also easily walked away with the 50/50 Home Run Derby prize of $78 by hitting an amazing 27 home runs!  Tournament sponsors from PA, BWBL Breaker Boys, had a very strong showing to cop the Runner-Up trophy.  Goodell Sucks and Team Jake walked away with semifinalist hardware.  Also of note was Homers For Harambe, who as the only Major League Division team to not win a game and not make the playoff bracket, at least won the humorous Sultans Of Suck plaque.  Young lads with great style, Wiffle Ballers, won Best Uniforms, and in a nod to the locals, LeominSTARZ took home the Best Team Name plaque.

We should have a final donation tally in the coming days, and we’ll share that as soon as we know.  Next, the Wifflin’ For Wishes Road Show is gearing back up for the next stop on the tour, Des Moines, IA on Saturday, September 17th!  Registration for that is open until September 12th, so keep those team signups coming in!

Thank you all for your dedication to this wonderful cause, and in spending a day having a blast with us!  Let’s help this thing grow and together we’ll blow it up!

Cheers,
~Pat “Truck” Moriarty
